Dr. Stanimir Hasardzhiev, NationalPatients’ Organization (NPO), Bulgaria

Stanimir Has a rd zh iev, MD is one of the founder s and current Chair person of the N ational Patients’ Organization (NPO) – the biggest patients’ umbrella organization in Bulgaria. NPO has more than 70 member organizations representing patients with different socially significant diseases.

Dr.Hasurdjiev has devoted himself to the work in the nongovernmental sphere and in defense of patients’ rights. As of 2011, he represents the Bulgarian patients in the Supervisory Board of the National Health Insurance Fund.

As of May 2013, Dr. Hasardzhiev is a Board Member of the European Patients’ Forum. He is an executive director of the European Liver Patients’ Association (ELPA), a member of several regional and international organizations and networks, e.g. World Hepatitis Alliance , European Community Advisory Board, International Capacity Building Alliance and others. He has many Bulgarian and international awards, such as Best media award for “Am I number 12 campaign” in 2008,commemorate of the World Hepatitis Day. In 2011 , the N ational Patients’ Organization was awarded a prize by Effie Worldwide Awards for its campaign “If the healthcare system doesn’t hear you”.

Mr. Johan De Cock, General Administrator at National Institute of Health & Disability Insurance (RIZIV), Belgium

Mr. Jo De Cock is CEO of the National Institute of Health and Disability Insurance (NIHDI) since 1995. He has obtained a master of law and a master of criminology from the Catholic University of Louvain, where he started his professional experience as a research assistant on the Institute of Social Security on the Faculty of Law (1977-1983).

He continued his career by joining the Center for political, economical and social studies where he was researcher and political advisor. From the mid eighties until the beginning of the nineties he worked as a deputy director and counselor of social affairs in the office of the Belgian Prime Minister(1985-1993). Later on he filled the position of adjunct general administrator of the National Social Security Office (1993-1995).

Mr. Erik Briers, secretary of the European prostate cancerumbrella organization “Europa Uomo”

Mr. ErikA. M. Briers has obtained a PhD Degree in Chemistry from KULeuven, Belgium(1979) and a certificate in environmental sciences KULeuven (2000). His professional experience includes a variety of engagements as he has been a teacher in chemistry and physics, Head of biochemistry department, new technologies and quality assurance at the Central Clinical Laboratory of Antwerp, Belgium (1979-1980) and Head of scientific services bio Mérieux in Benelux (1980-1982). He is the founder and a former CEO of Eco-Bio diagnostics(1982-1990). He is also the founder and current CEO of Beta Ventures(1990-today). Currently, he is the Executive Director of the European Cancer Patient Coalition (2012-today). Additionally, he is a guest lecturer at Leuven University College on Trends in applied biochemistry.

In 2001,Mr. Briers was diagnosed and treated with radical prostatectomy. As of today,there are no signs of recurrences. As a patient, he joined the Belgian patient support group “Us Too Belgium” to become its Chairperson. He is secretary of the European prostate cancer umbrella organisation “Europa Uomo”. He is in the board of the “Huis Erika Thijs” for people with cancer and their relatives as well as in the board of “LIKAS” - The Limburg Cancer Foundation.

Mr. Achim Kautz, Policy Director, The European Liver Patients’ Association (ELPA)

Mr. Achim Kautz, a father of two, has gained a Diploma in Advertising and Communication. Since 2001, he is a Manager of Deutsche Leberhilfe e.V., an influential patients’ organization dedicated to advocacy work in the field of liver diseases. As of 2002, he is a Board Member of a German network of excellence for viral hepatitis called Hep-Net. In 2004, he became a founding member of the European Liver Patients’ Association (ELPA) to become its Vice-President (2011-2012) and a Policy Director of the organization in 2013. He is also a Member of the Supervisory Board and of the Board of Trustees in Deutsche Leberstiftung. Since 2008 he is a member of the World Hepatitis Alliance. In 2010, he became a founding member of the German work group “National Liver Strategy Plan”.

Apart from his remarkable professional experience, Mr. Kautz has several academic publications for the period 2006 - 2010 [ Zeitschrift für Gastroenterologie (44:305-317), Hepatology (Volume 44, 267), Zeitschrift für Gastroenterologie (46:22-33),Zeitschrift für Gastroenterologie (48(4):455-64)].

Ms. Emily Peasgood, INCITE, UK

Emily Peasgood has worked in pharmaceutical market research for over 10 years. She started her career at Synergy Healthcare Research and then moved into international research through her role at Research International. Prior to joining Incite she was the MD of Ipsos Health where she was responsible for running the18 strong team and leading and delivering research for key pharmaceutical,medical device and medical diagnostic clients.

Emily has experience in both qualitative and quantitative work and over the years has conducted 100s of interviews with HCPs, patients and payers using a range of different methodologies and research techniques. Emily particularly enjoys pre-launch research – understanding the market landscape, assessing new product potential and strategic segmentations, and has experience in diabetes, pain, neurology, respiratory, vaccines, mental health and cardiovascular. Emily joined Incite as a Principal in October 2012.

Ms. Dessislava Dimitrova, Chair of the Standing Committee of the Regional Committee of the World Health Organization

Ms. Dessislava Dimitrovais currently Chair of the StandingCommittee of the Regional Committee of the World Health Organization . She was a Deputy Minister of Healthof the Republic of Bulgaria responsible for health financing, including EU fund investments and public health. Prior to this position, she was an advisor in health policy to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Republic of Bulgaria. Through her career Ms Dimitrova has worked in the area of health economics and health financing in the public and private sectors, closely linked to health and health-related organizations and programs at global, regional and national level.

Ms Dimitrova earned a Masters Degree in Economic Policy from Princeton University, a Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies and Economics with Magna cum Laude honors from Bowdoin College and a Certificate in Business from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and a certificate in health economics and health systems reform from the World Bank Institute and Harvard University.

MRs. Нathalie Chaze, DG sanco

Mrs. Nathalie Chaze is a lawyer, specialized in EU law. She worked for 15 years in DG TRADE (European Commission) on several issues (services, WTO, IPR).

In DG SANCO, Directorate Health, Mrs. Chaze has been since 2008. More particularly looking after the directive on application of patients' rights in cross border healthcare.

She is Head of unit for SANCO D2 Healthcare Systems, with responsibilities including patient safety, quality of care, health workforce and health systems financial sustainability.
